Good Morning Newry & Mourne

From 2002 - 2004 the organisation operated a Senior Helpline for older people, which encouraged volunteers to answer calls and respond to issues of concern from older people. This led to establishing a Good Morning Newry & Mourne Service in 2005 which was a more proactive service whereby volunteers made the initial contact with the older person and acted upon any concerns.

The Service

The Good Morning Newry & Mourne service was initially set up to provide a "home from hospital" service for older people who had been recently discharged from hospital, and were seen to be vulnerable. The service has now grown in to a community based telephone service for all older people within Newry & Mourne who may feel isolated or vulnerable while living independently. The service is provided by a dedicated team of volunteers, who provide a friendly voice to speak to and listen to; while checking on the older person's health and wellbeing.
